It reminds a bit of the eBay melt-down in China where they failed to realize that it's not enough to be a big player - there will come competitors with a better prizing strategy. Amazon really has a great platform and consumer base to work with, they should be able to offer a much better solution. They have had the time and distribution channels on their side, it's a pity to throw it away just because they are greedy. Yup, Jobs did a smart move. They got a sweet deal - you already pay for their services through the taxes. There are a bunch of other free community alternatives, but as a parent I would be happy to pay for an entire box of ice cream to ensure that my kids can play on the fotball field or the playground instead of on the freeway.
