It reminds a bit of the eBay melt-down in China where they failed to realize that it's not enough to be a big player - there will come competitors with a better prizing strategy. Amazon really has a great platform and consumer base to work with, they should be able to offer a much better solution. They have had the time and distribution channels on their side, it's a pity to throw it away just because they are greedy. Yup, Jobs did a smart move. Nice move Jobs, to open up your pricing strategy in order to let the publisher choose side, and eventually make sure that there's no more competition on the distributor side.
